Format: Summer 2022 is run as an in person in studio camp with some online instruction via Zoom Meetings.

Feedback: Plenty of professional feedback throughout duration of camp.

Materials: Cartoon materials, sketchbook, and if taking animation or digital painting, a laptop and tablet, or any device that allows drawing.

Duration: five days

Homework: 1 to 4 hours of home drawing exercises per day during mid-day breaks and evening work sessions.

Skill level/pre-req: Beginner to avant-garde. Simply bring your involvement in cartoon and telling stories and we will help y'all develop the skills to bring your stories and characters to life!

Karen Kesteloot

Drawing Fundamentals, Compages, and Portfolio Coach from Humber College

Karen Kesteloot graduated from Humber College Interior Design in 1986, and University of Guelph Fine Arts in 1996. Her love of art and skill as a painter grew while studying art in Paris and Florence.

She has certificates in developed educational activity from Sheridan and Conestoga Colleges. Karen has designed interiors and shopping centers around the world in her design career but discovered her true creative passion of teaching starting in 1998 when she started teaching in a diversity of fine art, design, fine art fundamentals and illustration programs at Sheridan, Humber and Conestoga colleges and the University of Guelph. Karen currently teaches in Humber'south Design Foundations Certificate Program

Karen founded PortPrep to support students applying to visual arts programs in 2012 and has brought together a exciting group of dedicated art instructors to join the PortPrep team.

Garth Laidlaw

Character Design, Storyboarding, and Blitheness Instructor

Garth Laidlaw graduated from Sheridan College in 2012, and has been busy working as freelance animator, illustrator, and instructor ever since. Nearly recently, he's besides been painting landscapes and selling them at art markets in Southern Ontario.

He has taught with PortPrep since it began, specializing in animation and illustration portfolios and has supported many students in reaching their goals of studying at great schools similar Sheridan, Seneca, and Calarts. He has too taught effigy drawing and gouache painting at the Guelph School of Art.

Garth runs a weekly figure drawing in Guelph, has self-published a children's book, and illustrated many more, and also helped launch a board game chosen Stratos.

H Werner Zimmermann

Mark Thurman:

Figure Drawing Guest Teacher from Sheridan Animation

Mark Thurman graduated from the Fundamental Technical School Art Programme in 1966, and has been a working creative person since that time.

He has worked equally an illustrator, a designer, and shown as a gallery creative person. He has written and illustrated 20 books and designed and illustrated more than 25 books for other authors. He was the co-creator and illustrator of the "Mighty Mites" a scientific comic in Owl Magazine. From 1976 to 1991, he co-authored  ( with Emily Hearn ) and illustrated 153 episodes.

He has taught life cartoon beefcake and analogy/design at the Toronto School of Fine art, beefcake figure drawing at OCAD, and picture book illustration at Central Technical School. Currently, he teaches Beefcake/ Figure Drawing in the Classical Blitheness department at Sheridan College.

Zen Rankin:

Mindset Mentor, Figure Cartoon and Character Pattern Instructor from Humber College

Born in Toronto Ontario and raised in Whitby, Zen Rankin studied Analogy at The Sheridan College.

Encouraged at a young age, Zen began to draw from his early on popular culture influences in the comics, graphic novels, and video games he enjoyed. Eventually he began working as a freelance illustrator and comic artist. Today Zen creates artwork based on introspection to explore the limitations of the human condition. Colourful characters and vignettes are recurring theme of these works, which apply a mixture of both traditional and digital media. Zen works as a freelance art director, illustrator and character designer on a broad range of projects for his clients.

He is currently a effigy drawing instructor for Humber College in the Dual Credit Program. Zen specializes in encouraging immature artists and animators to develop good for you work habits and mindsets that can help them find success in the arts while having a lot of fun doing it!

John Anthony Digiovanni

Composition and Digital Painting Teacher

Mike 50. Murphy
